William R. (Bill) Bryant was a major figure in the field of discography. He was a regular contributor to New Amberola Graphic and other collectors' publications, and the co-author of Oxford and Silvertone Records. He assisted with many major projects, including The Encyclopedic Discography of Victor Recordings and Ethnic Music on Records, while pursuing his own extensive research.

The first installment in the Zonophone Discography Series covers American Zonophone's complete 10" and 12" general-catalog issues of 1904-1912.

This remarkable volume, which was nearing completion at the time of Bill's death, draws on the expertise of more than one-hundred collectors and researchers. Newly discovered data, acquired in the intervening years, has been added to produce the only complete, authoritative guide to American Zonophone records. Features include:

  • Listing, release, and coupling dates
  • Recording dates, where verifiable from test pressings and the surviving Victor-Zonophone ledgers
  • Matrix numbers, coupling details, remakes, alternate versions, and unissued recordings
  • Catalog numbers of corresponding foreign and client-label releases, including Aretino, Busy Bee, Oxford, and Peerless
  • Artist pseudonyms, and an appendix detailing vocal-group personnel
  • Composer and show credits, and medley contents
  • Illustrated historical introduction
  • Artist and title indexes
